At BAHASI we aim to be able to support our programmes ourselves and be self-sufficient. We aim to do this so we can ensure those most in need of help in our community are supported without having to rely on donors.
Currently we are fundraising to start some of our own IGA's (income generating activities). These projects include a maize milling machine, female empowerment tailoring programme and buying a bus for BAHASI.
Maize milling machine -
At the moment BAHASI relys on a facility located 20 minutes away to mill maize. This is not only costing BAHASI a lot of time and effort but also money which could be put towards our other projects. A milling machine on-site would not enable us to process our own maize efficiently, and also allow us to support families in our community through affordable access to milling services. This would empower us to be self-sufficient, teach essential skills to the children at BAHASI, and improve food security in Bangwe, all while meaning BAHASI has a source of income to fund our essential and highly beneficial programmes and projects.
The estimated cost of the milling machine is between 20-30 million Malawian Kwacha. Which is around £13,200. Please click here to donate towards BAHASI's maize milling machine and birghten the lives of those in Bangwe.
Female Empowerment tailoring programme -
BAHASI is in the process of setting up a female empowerment tailoring programme. This programme will enable women in our community to have learn a skill and become self-sufficient, meaning they do not have to rely on other people for support or resort to begging or prostitution. We hope to make this project completely self-funded after an initial, generous donation from Gift of the Givers foundation. We will do this by selling some of the products made in the tailoring course to buy new materials for the next training taking place.

Buying a bus for BAHASI -
Buying a bus is incredibly useful for BAHASI in many ways. It will ensure all our children make it to and from school each day in one trip, enabling them to have an education and brightening their futures. It also means all the children can attend our swimming program, which previously children have been turned away from due to lack of transport and they will be able to join in and flourish with these new opportunities. A bus will be an income generating activity for BAHASI as we will rent out the bus when we are not using it. This, along with the fact we will no longer be paying for public transport means we will have more money to put towards other projects at BAHASI.
